Mark Patrick Roeling BSc MSc
Born in Leersum (The Netherlands), I lived with my parents in Waalwijk from 1989. After elementary school and highschool I studied human sciences in Maaseik (Belgium) at the Royal Atheneum. In August 2005 I commenced the undergraduate study (BSc) in psychology at Tilburg University. The main focus of my undergraduate work was clinical psychology, forensic psychiatry, and biological psychology.
During my bachelor in psychology I worked as a research- and student-assistant. Besides my education, I was active at the study-society Complex and joined the Soeterbeeck-programme. Also, I assisted in studies and papers involving secrecy and mental health among the elderly (seniorenbarometer). My bachelorthesis described the influence of clinical disorders on social functioning, and the quantification of chronic invalidity in patients with a psychiatric illness.
As a graduate student I completed a master's degree (MSc) in behavioral genetics and worked as a research assistant at the Netherlands Twin Registry (dep. of biological psychology, VU Amsterdam). My training involved gene hunting, genomic data analysis, statistical genetics, multivariate twin studies, and nuclear twin-family designs for talents and aptitude behavior.
Currently, I am appointed as a scientific researcher (PhD candidate) at the dep. of child/adolescent psychiatry of the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, in collaboration with the complex trait genetics-lab at the VU University Amsterdam.
As a hobby, I like to play the piano and read ambo-classical literature as well as academic work from colleagues. My interests extend to (nerdy) stuff like programming and gaming. I aim to spend the rest of my spare time by translating research-outcomes to society.
